Kurdish Movie Lovers Bringing Back Cinema to Kirkuk

kurdish movie theatres

The article below originally appeared in Rudaw on March 7th, 2016.

There used to be six movie theaters in Kirkuk, but all of them have been removed to make way for shops and car parks.

In an attempt to bring back cinemas to Kirkuk the House of Cinema, which was formed a few months ago, is starting to show movies once a month.

Khaiam, Salahadin, Atlas, Cindibad, Hamra, and Alamin were the movie theaters which attracted many moviegoers in Kirkuk in the 1950’s to 1970’s. But there is no cinema in the city today.

Watch the Rudaw video below to learn about the revival of cinema in Kirkuk.
