Over the weekend, Kurdish charity organization, the Rwanga Foundation, organized a festival which coincided with the annual Xoli Raperin soccer tournament at the Martyr Franso Hariri Stadium in Erbil, Iraq.

The Rwanga charity festival also featured a performance by Grammy award-winning rapper, Nelly, who made history as the first American artist to perform in Kurdistan

The event saw 15,000 local people in attendance. After the Xoli Raperin soccer tournament, guests were treated to a Motocross show from international star André Villa, a performance from Arab Idol’s Ammar Koofy, and the headlining act, Nelly, who performed hits including “Hot in Herre” and “Ride Wit Me”.

The landmark occasion was put on by the Rwanga Foundation, a Kurdish charity devoted to assisting the most vulnerable in the region. Proceeds from the ticket sales will to go help to those impacted during the humanitarian crisis. Rwanga Foundation has played an active role in helping those most vulnerable during this period — one of their latest projects built a community for 24,000 displaced people.

Rwanga Foundation’s Director or PR & Media, Taban Shoresh said, “We are delighted and proud that the city of Erbil hosted this landmark charity concert and would like to thank Nelly for his involvement. The event was here to celebrate the people of this city, promote peace, and a chance to raise money for the millions of people who have been affected by the ongoing conflict.”
