ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – Traditional Kurdish music will meet ballet on a stage in Hamburg, Germany in a unique collaboration between singer Hani and a youth dance company.

Hani, from Iranian Kurdistan, has joined the Bundesjugendballett company for the event she described as “unprecedented.”

“It is a privilege for the Kurdish music and songs to take part in the most popular festival Bundesjugendballett at the largest ballet hall in Germany,” she told Rudaw.

Dancers with the Bundesjugendballett, Federal Youth Ballet, will dance to traditional Kurdish music, in what is believed to be a first for this type of collaboration.

“I hope we become a bridge to introduce Kurdish culture to the whole world,” said Hani.

She shared a clip of rehearsals on her Facebook page with dancer Ricardo Urbina dancing to her performance of the traditional folk song Ahmedo.
