Kurdish Gardener Strives to Plant Public Gardens in Erbil

The article and video below originally appeared in Rudaw on November 30th, 2015.

Flowers are an important part of the city of Erbil, as the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has in the past paid almost $1 million yearly to beautify the city.

At the forefront of these efforts is an Egyptian native named Ahmed Misri, a gardener who told Rudaw he relishes planting blossoms in Erbil as a way to thank his adopted city, where he has lived over half of his life. Said Misri,

It is the elegance of the flowers and trees that brings people out of their houses and takes them to the parks.

Misri was interviewed by Rudaw about his efforts to plant flowers and build public gardens in Erbil. The video can be found in the video below.
